When choosing tires for an overland vehicle, we look for one thing above all else, trust. Tires are the single most important connection between your vehicle and the terrain beneath you, whether that’s wet highways, rocky backcountry roads, or snow-covered mountain passes.
Over the past several months, we’ve been running the RoadX RXQuest A/T QX12 tires as part of a long term review on our daily driver and overland setup. We’ve driven on them through summer road trips, fall backcountry exploration, and full Canadian winter conditions. This review is based entirely on real-world use across a wide range of environments.
Our Vehicle & Tire Setup
Derry (our vehicle) serves double duty as a daily driver and an adventure platform, meaning our tires need to perform reliably in all conditions.

Tire: RoadX RXQuest A/T QX12
Size: 31 x 10.5 R15
Use Case: Daily driving, long-distance travel, gravel roads, rocky trails, winter driving
Mileage Tested: 12,000 Km (and counting)
Why We Chose the RoadX RXQuest A/T QX12
We were looking for a true all-terrain, all-weather tire that could handle year-round travel in Canada without sacrificing comfort or breaking the bank. The RXQuest A/T QX12 stood out due to its aggressive tread design, 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) rating, and competitive price point.
Disclosure
While RoadX did provided the tires as part of a partnership, this review reflects our honest experience after extended use in real-world conditions.

On-Road Performance
For a tire with such an aggressive tread pattern, the RXQuest A/T QX12 performed impressively well on pavement.
Handling: Stable and predictable at highway speeds
Wet Grip: Confident braking and cornering in heavy rain
Road Noise: Surprisingly quiet, noticeably quieter than our previous A/T tires.
Fuel Efficiency: We’ve even seen a slight improvement in fuel consumption
Long highway days are comfortable, and the tires never feel vague or unsettled, even when the van is fully loaded.

Off-Road Performance
Off the pavement is where these tires really start to shine.
On gravel and corrugated backcountry roads, airing down slightly results in a smoother ride and better traction. On rougher trails with exposed rock and uneven terrain, the tires conform well, maintaining grip without feeling harsh or fragile.
We’ve found the contact patch felt well balanced and confidence-inspiring, delivering consistent traction and stability.
The robust shoulder design noticeably increased grip in rutted, rocky, and uneven terrain while also adding a layer of protection when things got tight.
The step-style tread block edges did a great job of shedding stones. Despite the aggressive pattern road noise stayed surprisingly low during long highway stretches.
The 3PMSF certification is truly worth noting. Providing reliable traction in unpredictable conditions these tires have kept us safe on the daily drives as well.
We’ve been particularly impressed by how confidently the QX12's handle dirt roads and loose surfaces. They've provided reliable traction, helping keep consistent momentum during our adventures away from the road.

Winter Performance
Living in a ski resort means winter driving is unavoidable, and winter performance was a major factor for us.
The QX12’s 3PMSF rating translates to solid real-world winter capability. In packed snow and slushy conditions, traction is predictable and braking remains controlled. While no all-terrain tire replaces a dedicated studded winter tire, these have performed extremely well for year-round use in variable winter conditions.
Durability & Wear
After months of use across mixed terrain, wear has been even and minimal. We haven’t experienced any punctures, sidewall damage, or abnormal tread wear, a reassuring sign given the terrain and distances we regularly cover.
During one of our off-road trips, we attempted to tackle the Telkwa Pass, a steep, rocky, and unforgiving stretch of BC backcountry. Heavy rain had caused severe washouts, and while the trail was ultimately deemed unsafe to continue, we still pushed through some seriously sketchy rock sections with real potential for tire damage. We fully expected to come away with an issue, but the QX12s just kept rolling without a hiccup. Their durability has genuinely impressed us.

Value & Who These Tires Are For
One of the standout aspects of the RoadX RXQuest A/T QX12 is its performance-to-price ratio. For travellers, overlanders, and weekend adventurers who want dependable all-terrain capability without stepping into premium pricing, these tires offer excellent value.
They’re a great fit for:
Overland and adventure travel
Daily drivers that regularly leave pavement
Drivers needing true year-round capability
They may not be ideal for:
Dedicated mud wheeling
Rock crawling rigs
For the more aggressive off-road setups out there we'd recommend taking a looking at the RoadX RXQuest R/T. https://roadxtires.ca/en-ca/tires/rt/
Final Thoughts
After extensive real-world testing, we’ve been genuinely impressed with the RoadX RXQuest A/T QX12. They strike a strong balance between on-road comfort, off-road capability, winter performance, and value.

Most importantly, they’ve earned our trust, and when you’re travelling far from help, that’s everything.
A big thanks to RoadX Tires for partnering with us and giving us the chance to put the RXQuest A/T QX12 tires through their paces. We hope this blog post has helped guide your decision for your next set of adventure-ready tires.
